The Ghost Light Series

ghost-light

In the theatre we have a tradition. Whenever the stage goes dark between performances, we always like to leave a single light burning in the house until the curtain can rise again. We call it – a “ghost light.” And until we can all meet once more at White Heron, we’re pleased to offer you something we like to call our Ghost Light Series. Original Radio Drama created especially for you, our Nantucket audience. Nantucket’s White Heron Theatre Company presents White Heron Radio Theatre. Our first series, The Ghost Light Series, is adapted and directed by Mark Shanahan from Blue Ballietts book Nantucket Ghosts, 44 True Accounts. Performed by White Heron’s award-winning actors. Original music, sound design and audio production by John Gromada. Produced by White Heron Theatre Company.

A Trip Across the Sound

From the Archives of the Inquirer and Mirror

A letter to the editor of Nantucket’s hometown newspaper, dated August 1942.  While crossing the Nantucket Sound on the ferry to Nantucket, a reader reports a strange and unexplainable sighting among the passengers aboard.

Told by Lynne Bolton

A Shaker Rocker

Restoring an old Nantucket house means getting to know it intimately. For one  couple, pulling up floorboards and tearing down wallpaper reveals the history of their new home’s original owner- a whaling captain who left his name hidden in unexpected places throughout the house. In some ways, his presence is still very much felt, as if he never left the house. Then again, maybe…he didn’t.

Told by Drew McVety

Whistle

After a difficult  year  battling personal demons, Martin James returns to the Nantucket guest house he visited as a boy, hoping to recapture the happy days of his childhood. But when he stumbles across a mysterious relic on the beach, James accidentally summons a terrifying vision which  grips him with fear… and may never let  go.

Inspired by the short story “O Whistle And I’ll Come To You, My Lad” by English horror master M.R. James

Featuring Steve Pacek, Alexandra Kopko and Catherine Shanahan

Shimmer

Parker is the best electrician on Nantucket Island. That’s why he was chosen to install the alarm system at the house on Mill Street. And yet, the alarm keeps going off, without explanation.
But, Parker knows that there are some things which lurk just beneath the surface that can’t be explained.  He saw something at that house. What it was, he cannot say. But it was there.

Featuring Michael Kopko, Ciaran Byrne and Sandra Shipley.

A Little Girl

Every parent wants to help a child in need. But when that child only appears from the beyond, things become a whole lot more complicated.

You Wanted to See Me

Footsteps in the attic.  Muffled voices in the night.  Strange shadows in the doorway.  Living in an old Nantucket house often means accepting a host of mysterious events in your home. But if you do go looking for an explanation, it’s best to be prepared for what you may find.
